09 Jan

######

More than 40 South Wales Police officers are working to trace a man suspected of murdering a woman in a Cardiff hotel room.
Nadine Aburas’ body was found by staff at the Future Inn, Cardiff Bay, at about midday on New Year’s Eve.
Suspect Sammy Almahri, 44, from New York, left the UK on 31 December and is believed to be in Tanzania.
A post-mortem examination is taking place and police are trawling through a “significant amount” of CCTV footage.
Det Supt Paul Hurley said: “As you can appreciate there is a significant amount of CCTV footage to be examined, from a variety of locations, and our officers are continuing to work through the imagery.
“We are progressing a number of enquiries that include the suspects’s movements between the 26th and 28th of December.
“We are also undertaking detailed investigative work surrounding Sammy Almahri finances.”
He added South Wales Police was working with law enforcement agencies and National Crime Agency staff in the US and Tanzania.
Police say Ms Aburas and Mr Almahri had known each other for three years and both checked into the Future Inn within 30 minutes of each other on 30 December.
Five hours later, Mr Almahri left and is believed to have booked and boarded a flight at 10:00 GMT from Heathrow to Doha in Qatar, before flying on to Tanzania, east Africa.
